Prosthetic Feet

There are hundreds of prosthetic feet that are available to you depending on your activity level and goals. We will list some common ones here but know that there is a large range of options in between the ones listed here.

SACH

A SACH foot is the most basic type of prosthetic foot option, consisting of a rigid inner material and a foam heel/cover. This is common as part of initial prostheses as a simple and durable design.

Multi-axial

This style of foot allows for the wearer to traverse daily obstacles more easily. The foot often has a split design internally, allowing it to absorb forces caused by uneven ground and increase balances.

High Activity

The types of feet are typically associated with an additional prosthesis meant solely for activities requiring running and jumping. Due to the “spring-like” nature of the foot, these are not ideal for every day walking but do afford many benefits for people with high-activity goals.

Hydraulic

Prosthetic feet with hydraulic ankles restore additional motion not provided by a standard carbon foot. The resistance and range of motion can be adjusted to suit your activity levels.

Microprocessor Controlled

Just like prosthetic knees, there are a couple of options of feet that use a small computer to control the ankle angle while walking. While there is additional weight associated with the battery, there are also benefits to them including the restoration of natural gait.

Adjustable ankle

Most prosthetic foot options are adjusted in clinic to the shoes worn to the appointment. Wearing a shoe with a different heel height will affect your gait if the height change is dramatically different. Adjustable heel heigh shoes provide more flexibility in your footwear. Some options can even be worn while swimming!

Walk all day, walk smoother, walk with confidence and greater safety.
