POA Success Stories

Brian

Brian was able to successfully achieve independent sitting, standing, and walking!

Brian is the definition of a hard worker and sport enthusiast! Brian came to POA after he had survived an incomplete spinal cord injury after a skiing accident. Brian sustained significant injuries which caused limited function in his lower extremities from his hips and below.

Because of Brian’s significant involvement, he required the upmost support that orthotic devices can provide. By working alongside his orthotist at POA, Brian was able to express his goals and work together to create a treatment plan for his care. Brian is an attorney and enjoys working at his standing desk.

Brian’s goal was to return to work and serve his clients. His goal was to be able to return to his office and perform his duties to the fullest. A reciprocating gait orthosis was indicated for Brian to achieve standing and walking independence again. Although these orthoses are very involved for patients with paralysis, with intensive physical therapy, Brian was able to successfully achieve independent sitting, standing, and walking!

Brian has successfully returned to work, although jokes about retiring constantly! He continues to be active in outdoor sports in the Hudson Valley region and enjoys working out. We are impressed by his ability to overcome obstacles and continue to move forward with his life!
